A THC drink might sound too good to be true to many, but many cannabis and hemp companies alike have integrated THC infused drinks into their own line of products. Cannabis infused beverages are nothing new to humans, in fact, the era of criminalizing cannabis to the extent that we do today, is a relatively new idea.
Throughout history, humans have been using cannabis for a number of purposes, and within the Roman Empire, cannabis was a common additive to their wines to increase intoxication. Cannabis was also present in a number of religious ceremonies, and was not seen as a negative in particular in the United States until 1937.
THC and CBD have been used in edibles for quite some time, but for them to be so involved in the “drink game” as they are today, is quite an interesting change for the industry to undergo. One of the questions that remains however, is how these thc infused beverages will be classified, and grouped on the market. Are they an extension of edible cannabis products? Or are these thc drinks rather new competition for the beer market?
THC Drinks and Cannabis Beverages: New Competition?
Cannabis infused drinks are relatively new on the market, so they are quite easily able to navigate the current trends within the alcohol industry very closely, and are able to offer closely related products to what is popular.
Popular beer company Pabst Blue Ribbon has launched a THC infused seltzer, containing options of 5 and 10 mg of THC. The sparkling water beverage is alcohol free, and is currently available in a Lemon and Strawberry Kiwi flavor. They also use real fruit juice in the process, making this thc drink a very clean, and refreshing as well.
Another drink that has gained quite a bit of traction within the industry is Uncle Arnie’s Ice Tea Lemonade. This “Arnold Palmer” style beverage is not for the faint of heart, as it packs 100mg of THC into a 8 fl oz bottle! These drinks are recommended to be taken one serving at a time, as opposed to the whole bottle at once.
Both of these thc infused drinks are available in Los Angeles area dispensaries, as well as throughout the state of California. As legalization continues across the country, you can be sure to see these products in a store near you, hopefully in the near future!
Another thc drink that has gained immense popularity is by the company Cann. Cann is another sparkling water company that prides itself on smaller doses of THC, but blends it with CBD to create an incredibly relaxing experience. Cann is labeled as a “social tonic”, and is infused with 2 mg of THC, and 4 mg of CBD. It is currently available in Lemon Lavender, Blood Orange Cardamom, and Grapefruit Rosemary flavors, and is available in dispensaries across the west coast.
While the cannabis market continues to grow with an increase in states legalizing, the innovations of the industry have been a marvel to see. THC drinks are just one byproduct of said innovation. These drinks have shown to be able to create products similar enough to the alcohol market, that they can truly go toe to toe in that arena.
While seltzers are all the rage in the current landscape of beverages, the beverage game is one of trends, and while sparkling waters have cemented themselves as a mainstay in the industry, do not be surprised if cannabis drinks simply follow whatever the main trends are.
There are a number of companies that are looking to expand into cannabis drinks more targeted for those who prefer liquor over a seltzer or a beer. There are companies developing liqueurs containing THC, as well as THC wines being developed.
These are an incredibly interesting and up and coming aspect of the cannabis industry, and one that we should definitely keep our eyes on.
